Abstract

Pulmonary embolism is usually associated with lower limb and not upper limb orthopaedic procedures [4]. Deep vein thrombosis has been reported previously in upper limb trauma, such as humeral shaft and clavicle fractures, and also following total elbow arthroplasty [3, 6, 7]. To the authors’ knowledge, pulmonary embolism has not been reported following fixation of a traumatic elbow injury. We reported the unique case of a 28-year-old man who underwent fixation of a coronoid fracture with his post-op recovery complicated by a pulmonary embolism.
