Abstract

Dr. Sylvia O. Richardson, pediatrician, speech–language pathologist, researcher, scholar, teacher, and clinician, has had a long history of involvement in language-learning disabilities. She has published widely in the areas of language disorders and dyslexia. She has been President of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and the International Dyslexia Association (IDA—formerly the Orton Dyslexia Society). Dr. Richardson continues to travel extensively both nationally and internationally as an invited speaker, running workshops, consulting, and serving on various panels and task forces in language-learning and reading disabilities. Her perspective provides yet another way to consider how far researchers and clinicians have come in the challenge to understand and help children and adolescents with LLDs.
