Abstract

This book is written by two authors who have a just claim to the title of pioneers in health education. It is a comprehensive discussion of health education of the adult population outside of formalized teaching institutions, such as graduate schools and universities. Both authors have had extensive experience in obtaining the attention of the general public for the purpose of teaching about health. This experience is reflected in the character of the book, which deals more with philosophies than with the tools and procedures its subtitle might lead the reader to expect. There are, nevertheless, some good explanations of procedure, notably with regard to the spoken word, the role of the volunteer, and the use of group discussions and community organization for health education.
