Abstract

Abstract The interaction of psychological trauma and addiction has been noted for years, but only in the last decade has significant attention been focused on treating the two disorders concurrently. This chapter provides an overarching conceptual framework for understanding the nature of psychological trauma and its relationship to chemical dependency disorders and an introduction to the best thinking and practice in meeting the treatment needs of psychologically traumatized, chemically addicted people.
