Abstract

Abstract Psychological assessment of the clergy and the religious raises specific problems for the examiner. Because of the respect we historically have held for the clerical position, we need to insert a special objectivity when we face the clerical examinee in the assessment room. Yet, with all of the media coverage of clerical human frailty, we also need to not overreact and include vengeance in retribution for perception of hypocrisy. A balanced approach to the psychological assessment battery addresses personal need as well as pathology, and treatment and institutional accountability as well as care planning.
