Abstract

The clinical symptoms and haematological and pathological lesions of pseudotuberculosis in an antbear ( Orycteropus afer ) and the biochemical and biological properties of the isolated pathogen, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis ovis are described. For comparison blood and serum values of four other antbears are recorded. Evidence of the occurrence of the disease in wild life is reviewed in connection with epizoological considerations of the observed case. The antbear was very probably infected subsequent to and as a result of capture; clinical and pathological evidence suggested that this species is not a natural host of C . pseudo - tubercuiosisovis .
