Abstract

Neptunium dioxide single crystals were grown by a chemical transport reaction using tellurium tetrachloride as transporting agent in a quartz ampoule at 1050-960°C. The single crystals are cubes up to 1 mm on edge. Characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction and electron microprobe, which indicated a lattice parameter of 5.434 ± 0.001 Å and approximately 200 ppm of impurities, including 30 ppm Te and 70 ppm Si.
