Abstract

The desire to find an exciting and acceptable compromise between general education and skill training led to the development of the career-education-based programs described below. A basic tenet for all models is that career information is related to all grade levels and all subjects. This conviction led to the construction of models for use by teachers rather than by guidance counselors or career education specialists. The desire to expose teachers to a variety of tools and techniques used in the work world outside the school is paramount in the career guidance institute. Hopefully some teachers would augment the book, pencil, and paper approach with a new variety of devices for enhancing learning. A faith in the ability of teachers to bring new insights on the importance of education to the classroom pervaded the in-service program. The resource center was designed for individual study and small group guidance because of the conviction that individuals learn in different ways and at varying rates. The models are interrelated and, though they can stand alone, the stance is a wobbly one.
