Abstract
Salts of N-acetylmorpholine appear from their infrared spectra to be typical O-protonated amide salts. νOH increases markedly, δOH decreases gently, and γOH significantly, in the series HCl → HBr → HI. An anomalous reversal of this trend is observed in the HSbCl6 salt which suggests that a new type of complex is formed in which HCl protonates the amide group oxygen atom and SbCl5 coordinates at the heterocyclic oxygen atom.
