Abstract

Nuclear emulsions have been irradiated with fast neutrons within the core of the Universities Research Reactor. The resulting proton tracks have been measured using a photographic technique. The proton spectrum so determined has been compared directly with the spectrum obtained by visual scanning with a microscope. Variations in the resulting neutron spectrum are presented and compared with the spectrum calculated using the programme G.M.S.I. Providing there are upwards of 15 proton tracks per field of view, the photographic scanning technique offers a saving in scanning time, a permanent record of the proton tracks, simple means of measuring curved tracks and a resulting neutron spectrum comparable with that obtained by other methods.
