Abstract

The crystallographic study of compounds with formula Ba 3Fe 2−xLu xUO 9 (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 1, 2) shows that they are cubic ordered perovskite type compounds with probable space group Fm3m. Lutecium is equally distributed between the site of coordination 12 (8c) and the site 4b. On the magnetic point of view, these compounds have a behaviour of ferrimagnetic substance. The Néel theory is not applicable to these compounds. The model suggested by Geller et al. for the static magnetic behaviour of substituted garnets is most likely to account for the results obtained for these compounds.
