Abstract

Melt textured Nd 1Ba 2Cu 3O y - and Sm 1Ba 2Cu 3O y -composites with different additions of Nd 4Ba 2Cu 2O 10/Sm 2Ba 1Cu 1O 5 have been prepared. The temperature schedule, the oxygen atmosphere during melt texturing and the amount of additions determines the resulting superconducting properties. From the evaluation of critical temperature and critical current density for fields up to 5 T, the necessity of different processing parameters for Nd 1Ba 2Cu 3O y - and Sm 1Ba 2Cu 3O y -composites was deduced. Fabrication of Nd 1Ba 2Cu 3O y composites is more complicated and not yet optimized. In contrast, Sm 1Ba 2Cu 3O y shows good results of microstructure, shown by flux maps, and of high j c leading to higher levitation forces.
