Abstract

This paper reports on the fundamental background premises of the chalcogenide glasses use in the fiber and thin-film waveguides fabrication. It also presents the data obtained in the investigation of optical, electrical and photoelectric properties of chalcolgenide glass fibers. Certain optical properties of the chalcogenide glass thin-film waveguides have been determined. The possibility of using thin-film optical waveguides, based on chalcogenide glasses in constructing passive and active elements for integrated optics, is demonstrated. Promising applications of the optical waveguides, based on chalcogenide glasses, are described.
