Abstract

The development of l a se r and light-piping techniques has led to increasing interest in the investigation of the proper t ies of light beams. Light beams in homogeneous isotropic media were f i rs t investigated in [1]. This was followed by investigations of the proper t ies of beams in inhomogeneous [2, 3] and anisotropic media [4, 5]. The present paper is devoted to the special features of propagation of light beams in anisot ropic inhomogeneous media. To simplify the problem we consider a two-dimensional beam propagating in a uniaxial crys ta l (or in one of the principal planes of a biaxial crystal) .
