Abstract

It is a reflexive report about an assisted practice whose objective is to promote “pregnant” families into units and agents of self-care, having as a fundamental theory the nurse Dorothea Orem self-care approach, and the theory of family development, particularly living the acquisition or expansion/early and developing phases. The nursing assisted methodology involved the operation of four systematic and complementary steps that were developed with 2 “pregnant” families, in their homes, both located in Santa Catarina countryside. The experience with these families has shown the identification of their needs and knowledge in self-care, as well as the sharing in planning for their family health, besides the effective encouragement as agents of self-care. It was possible to interact with the families, creating strategies for healthcare, but working in order to having families adopting the ones that would be more convenient and appropriate to care for their own selves.
