Abstract
The International Space Station (ISS) is an ideal place to build an engineering center where experiments can be tested, technology can be advanced, and education on space exploration can be improved. The ISS could be used as an engineering research center where the education, commercial, scientific, and technical communities can work together to maximize the utility of this rare resource. This paper details an educational program, whose main purpose is to use space exploration to promote engineering education. It discusses ideas of how space experiments on the shuttle can meet commercial, scientific, and technological objectives. The name of this outreach program is sPACES, using space exploration for the Promotion and Awareness of Careers in Engineering and Science.
