Abstract

Shoulder pain is a frequent reason for consultation in rehabilitation services, which may be due to a rotator cuff tear, as in our case. We are reporting a case of a young female patient affected by a partial tear of the supraspinatus tendon, who was treated with prolotherapy after failing to respond to multiple treatments. Prolotherapy is a complementary and alternative medical therapy based on injections for treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain. After six sessions of prolotherapy, in a period of 15 weeks, the patient showed clinical improvement measured by visual analogue scale for pain and ultrasonography. As this is a single clinical case, we cannot establish a cause-effect relationship, however, it would be advisable to continue research on this therapeutic technique.
