Abstract

Proinsulin separated from human fetal pancreatic extracts using Sephadex G-50' comprised 0.26-10.6% of the total immunoreactive insulin (I.R.I.) values irrespective of the age of the fetus. On the isolated rat epididymal fat cells, human proinsulin had insulin-like activity at about 20% of its I.R.I. value; and after partial tryptic digestion, its insulin immunoreactivity was enhanced by 40% and its biological activity by over 800%.
