Abstract

Subject. This article discusses the issues of higher education development in Russia. Objectives. The article aims to substantiate the need to return to a profession-oriented model of higher education and offer recommendations for improving the professional standards of higher education teachers. Methods. For the study, we used the methods of logical and structural analyses. Results. The article finds that the rejection of the profession-oriented model of higher education has significantly weakened Russia's national security. It substantiates the key role of additional professional education in improving a specialist’s knowledge. Conclusions. The problem of the qualified personnel shortage has necessitated the higher and additional education system modernization, which has become the main condition for ensuring the technological sovereignty of the country.
