Abstract
A new multiple rapid solidification processing technique, employing liquid stirring, ultrasonic gas atomization and liquid dynamic compaction has been used to make bulk Al-10wt.%Pb-1wt.%Cu alloys. In this process, molten metal is stirred by a propeller mixer in the crucible, gas atomized by an ultrasonic nozzle and spray deposited onto a water cooled substrate. It was found that lead particles in the microstructure were almost homogeneously distributed in the aluminium matrix and gravity segregation could be prevented.
