Abstract

Background: Primary lymphoma of the appendix (PAL) is extremely rare, representing only 0.015% of all gastrointestinal lymphoma cases. This case report aims to evaluate the primary lymphoma of the appendix presenting as acute appendicitis Case Presentation: We present a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of the appendix presenting as acute appendicitis. Appendectomy was done by laparoscopy and followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. A two-year follow-up did not show any evidence of recurrent disease. Conclusion: Primary appendiceal lymphoma is very rare and there are no clear guidelines for therapy. Adjuvant chemotherapy showed high efficacy and follow-up shows no relapse. This case report emphasizes the importance of routine histology examination of the appendectomy.
