Learning Objectives: After reading this article, the participant should be able to: Describe the relevance of the guidelines for using perioperative prophylactic antibiotics in neurosurgical cases. List the antiseptic agents used in neurosurgical scrub preparations. Recall the rationale and guidelines relevant to preoperative shower, hair removal, and the surgical hand scrub. Summarize the guidelines related to skin preparation and the use of plastic skin drapes.
