Abstract

Abstract Extract The preoccupation of research workers interested in mastitis of dairy cows has been with the organisms responsible for pathological changes, with the treatment of infection by various means, together with methods of testing in field and laboratory for changes in secretion. Less attention has been given to means of preventing the disease. Only in recent years has consistent work on this important aspect been carried out and then largely in big central laboratories where useful facilities were available. Wilkinson (1968) Wilkinson, F. C. 1968. The control of bovine staphylococcal mastitis. Aust. vet. J., 44: 246–250. [Google Scholar] reported that results could be obtained by culling infected cows together with early treatment of cases.
