Abstract

Smoking is a significant public health problem worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, smoking prevalence has increased in the last couple of years. Few published studies have assessed the magnitude of this problem among physicians and the factors affecting it.

Introduction

Smoking is considered a significant public health problem worldwide. Several studies were conducted to assess & monitor the prevalence of smoking worldwide. In the MENA region, one systematic review has found that current or past smoking was 31.2%. It was significantly higher in males (48.0%) than in females (13.8%) [3]. In Saudi Arabia, smoking ranges from 2.4-52.3%. This varies according to gender & age group [4]. Other studies reported the prevalence of waterpipe smoking around 8-11%, which was common among students [6]. Smoking is a significant public health problem worldwide.
