Abstract

In the paper, present and future energy costs in Israel are estimated, both for non-electric and for electric energy, by a combination and comparison of various methods: a) update of previous runs and studies made on the ETA model in EPRI for the U.S.A. and their translation to Israeli conditions; b) the marginal costs study carried on recently at the Tel-Aviv University. While non-electric energy (based mainly on oil and coal) costs are expected to rise for quite a number of decades, electric energy costs is expected to rise until the end of 1981, and then decrease until the end of the century — then slowly increase again. A distinction is made between the cost of energy with-in the premises of a power station, and outside the premises — therefore, the costs of energy will be different for the various desalination processes considered.
