Abstract

A descriptive survey project was conducted with the Oncology Nursing Society to determine how professional nursing organizations prepare their nurse members for board roles and evaluate how well prepared Oncology Nursing Society members were to serve on a professional board of directors after completing a board governance e-learning program. While the findings revealed some encouraging results, opportunities exist for professional nursing organizations to prepare nurses for board governance roles and for nurses to gain additional confidence in leading boards. Recommendations based on these results will help leadership development committees refine their strategies for building future leaders.
