Abstract

Amorphous powder of the multicomponent alloy ZrMn 0.6V 0.1Co 0.2Ni 1.2 was prepared by ball milling of the intermetallic compound. The amorphous phase was formed after milling for 80 h. Hydrogenation of the amorphous powder was conducted and a comparison was made with that of the crystalline alloy. The absorption rate increased as the temperature increased, but the rate was slower than that of the crystalline phase. There was no plateau region in the pressure–composition–temperature curve, the maximum hydrogenation capacity was less, and a large amount of hydrogen was trapped at lower pressures.
