Abstract

1. Abstract Ventral hernia repair is one of the most commonly performed procedures worldwide. Hernia recurrence along with other complications of ventral hernia repair adversely affect patients and have substantial socio-economic impact. Identifying factors, which could affect postoperative outcome, is therefore very important. Factors like smoking, diabetes, history of MRSA infection, obesity and poor nutrition adversely affect wound healing process and lead to increased risk of infection and recurrence. Preoperative optimization of modifiable risk factors has shown to improve the outcome in terms of decreased wound complications and hernia recurrence. 2.
