Abstract
Objective: To know the care practices and cultural values from nurses when assisting pregnant women. Methods: This is an ethnonursing study conducted with five nurses working in low-risk prenatal care. The research was carried out from March to October 2013 by observing and interviewing each informant, in four units of the basic health service of a city in Rio Grande do Sul. Data were analyzed according to the guidelines proposed by Leininger. Results: The nursing care has transcended technicist conducts and has been influenced by cultural factors of each nurse’s individual perception. Conclusion: Promoting care permeated by culture is a needed interface in nursing, since that recognizing the sociocultural context of pregnancy allows identifying the ways to perform a culturally congruent care.
