Preface

Abstract

After Rotorua, Vancouver, Kyoto, Bogor, Canberra, Portland Oregon, Nanjing, Kuala Lumpur, Rotorua, Alberta, Shizuoka, Beijing, and Concepcion, became the previous hosts of the Pacific Rim Bio-based Composite Symposium, Hasanuddin University, Makassar-Indonesia has been given an honour become the host for the symposium in the year of 2018.It is an honor for us to present some of the papers that have been reviewed and presented at the symposium in this proceeding, both through oral presentation and poster presentation. The theme of this symposium is “Bio-based composites for better green life cycles” where the green life cycle is implemented through utilization green material and its processing. Scientists in the field of bio-based composites have been continuing highlight recent research in wood-based panel and composites. This symposium aims to be forum to exchange opinions, form research partnership and promote new research and development in bio-based composite. In addition to specific topics related to biocomposite and wood products, this symposium also provides media to present papers relating to forest products and forestry. The symposium covers topics of aspect biocomposite materials, fundamental and advance biocomposite processing, adhesive and bonding, polymer composite and bioplastic product, modified wood composite, perspective and challenge of composite product industrially and environmentally, forestry, forest product, and woody plant research which are presented in this proceeding.On behalf of the editors, we would like to thank you for the presenter in the symposium and also all the attendants. The participants are from Japan, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Rumania, Philippines, India, and Indonesia. In particular, we would like to express our gratitude for the cooperation of the authors in preparing the paper contained in this proceeding.We would like to extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education through Directorate General of Higher Education, President of Hasanuddin University for the support and sponsorship, our distinguish keynote speakers, Prof. Shigehiko Suzuki from Shizuoka University, Prof. Byung Dae Park from Kyungpook National University and Prof. Bambang Subiyanto from Indonesian Institute of Sciences.The symposium could not be held without the support and cooperation of other sources.
