Abstract
Degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis is a common condition in adult patients and is frequently managed by surgical treatment after failure of non-operative measures to relieve pain. While operative management is a well-established treatment modality for lumbar stenosis, limited evidence-based information regarding optimal selection of patients for surgery exists. Current reform in health care policy has sparked significant interest in comparative effectiveness research with the goal of optimizing treatment strategies for common conditions such as degenerative lumbar stenosis.
