Abstract

An empirical correlation has been developed for predicting the ‘departure from nucleate boiling’ (DNB) using data for an axially non-uniform heat flux distribution. This correlation is recommended for use in predicting the DNB flux in a reactor design. Procedures have been formulated for predicting the local DNB flux and the DNB location for a non-uniform flux distribution. The predicted results have been compared and agree closely with the existing non-uniform flux DNB data.
