Abstract

The Precambrian core from a basement test well in Mingo County, West Virginia, is granodiorite with minor quartz monzonite and tonalite. The potassium-argon method indicates a date of 939 ± 34 m.y. The core shows local shearing; microveins of sericite, orthoclase, and calcite indicate hydrothermal activity.
