Abstract

Reproductive disease is common in female green iguanas (Iguana iguana) in captivity if environmental conditions are sub-optimal. This case report describes a 25-year-old female green iguana that presented collapsed and emaciated, with a 5-week history of anorexia and lethargy, a distended coelomic cavity, and a report of unproductive straining after passing a single large deformed egg 1 week before presentation. The case involved both pre- and postovulatory stasis, associated with an oviductal torsion. The iguana was treated successfully by bilateral ovariectomy and salpingectomy. Presurgical stabilisation was an essential part of management.
