Abstract
• Recommend that test pits be made to determine the character, depth, and condition of the adjacent foundations. • Request access into the adjacent buildings for the purpose of determining the type of construction, general condition, and depth of the basement and cellars. • Attempt to obtain drawings for the adjacent structures. • Recommend that a preconstruction visual survey of the adjacent properties be performed for the purpose of documenting the condition of the properties. Consider providing a copy to the owners of the adjacent properties. • If underpinning will be needed, identify problematic conditions such as fragile foundations and difficult soils.
