Abstract Previous work has addressed industry disinformation in blocking climate action. This paper focuses on three additional matters. The first is political power. The second is anchoring effects and futuristic framing. The third is ‘techno-fideism’—an unreasonable faith in technology to solve social and political problems—and its relation to narratives of progress.
