Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of adding Edge-Oxidized Graphene Oxide (EOGO) to cement paste to enhance its bonding to different cement materials (cement mortar in this study). The current study employs the feature of incorporating EOGO into the cement matrix by accelerating the cement hydration and producing a flower-shaped cement production to improve the interlock of two different layers of cement matrices. To perform that, samples were constructed of two layers which are paste and mortar. Different amounts of EOGO were only added to the paste layer to allow them to fully interact with cement material. So, seven mixtures were prepared that include a single-layer sample of paste (P) and mortar (M), and two-layer samples of mortar and paste with different contents of EOGO which are 0.01 %, 0.05 %, 0.10 %, and 0.50 % by the weight of cement. The mechanical properties result as well as microstructural analysis results show that there is a potential for EOGO to enhance the bonding of two different cement productions supported by statistical analysis with a 95 % confidence level. The results also show adding EOGO with a percentage of 0.10 % by the cement weight has the best performance among other contents
