POTENTIAL IMPLEMENTATION OF ETHNOSCIENCE-ORIENTED LEARNING ON BIOTECHNOLOGY MATERIAL IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

There are still many science learning practices that focus on memorization and do not relate the subject matter to real life or the local cultural context of students. Science is often perceived as a difficult and boring subject because it relies heavily on technical terms and abstract material. This study aims to explore the potential implementation of ethnoscience oriented learning in biotechnology material at the junior high school level. Data were collected through interviews with 11 science teachers from Sub Rayon 05 of Grobogan Regency and classroom observations involving 3 peer teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Ngaringan. The interview was conducted using a Google Form-based questionnaire, while observation data were obtained through direct observation using a structured observation sheet. The results showed that teachers had a good understanding of ethnoscience (78.7%), and the potential for implementation was considered very high (84%). However, curriculum development remained the lowest aspect observed (67%). These findings indicate that while the conceptual understanding and enthusiasm of teachers toward ethnoscience are strong, effective implementation requires systemic support, training, and curricular alignment.

Problem statement of this research was how estimation of true score and standard error measurement of teacher made test mathematics subject according to classical test theory at the Junior High School level in Baubau city. Objective of this research was to know estimation of true score and standard error measurement of teacher made test Mathematics subject according to classical test theory at the Junior High School level in Baubau city. This research was descriptive quantitative research with the research subjects were all multiple choice tests made by the teacher for the final even semester test for the student at class VIII academic year of 2020/2021 in Mathematics subject of 7 Junior High School in Baubau city. The instruments of this research were answer sheets and student answer keys which were collected using documentation techniques. Data analysis was using the ITEMAN program. The results showed that the measurement standard error (E) of the Mathematics teacher made test at the Junior High School level in Baubau city consisted of 7 relatively small schools, including SMP Negeri 1 Baubau of 2,224, SMP Negeri 3 Baubau of 2,680, SMP Negeri 5 Baubau of 2,005, SMP Negeri 7 Baubauof 2,147, SMP Negeri 9 Baubau of 1,450, SMP Negeri 11 Baubau of 1,883, and SMP Negeri 17 Baubau of 1,995. This showed that the observed score obtained by student (X) tends to be close to the actual score (T).

Bogor Regency is one of the districts that has a high dropout rate in basic education. The average dropout rate occurs at the junior high school level, one of which has occured in Benteng Village, especially Gunung Leutik Village, Bogor. The high dropout rate in 2018 showed that the 9-year basic education goals stated in the 1945 Constitution have not been realized. As a form of community service, the academic community of the Management Department, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University in collaboration with SMP Negeri 1 Ciampea and the Nusa Educator Community organized a program named “teaching activities in schools”. The program was held for sixth months, started on August 16, 2021 - January 14, 2021. The activity was initiated by Thematic Community Service Program activities / KKN-T (a regular program of IPB University Students) that was continued by ‘teaching in schools’ program. This program taken place in Mount Leutik Village. Teaching at this school was carried out to students from Open Middle School, Package B, and Package C. The Nusa Educator Community and the IPB University KKNT team carried out program planning, including acceptance and search for new students, preparation of teaching materials and the determination of teaching locations. Furthermore, socialization was carried out simultaneously to the community so that their children who are not yet in school are sent to school. The outputs of this activity were to increase the motivation of students who have dropped out of school to continue education until they graduate and provide knowledge for students so that they are able to achieve graduation according to their level and are able to increase graduation rates at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels in the local area.

Ethnomathematics in Improving Students' Concept Understanding: A Meta-Analysis

Abstrak: Pembelajaran matematika dengan konsep budaya lokal atau yang disebut dengan etnomatematika merupakan suatu strategi untuk mengajarkan siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika yang selama ini dianggap menakutkan. Etnomatematik artinya studi matematika yang mempertimbangkan budaya dimana matematika timbul dan merupakan pendekatan yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan korelasi antara budaya lingkungan dan matematika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa dengan pembelajaran berbasis etnomatematika. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan meta-analisis. Data dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak JASP dengan inputan nilai Effect Size (ES) dan Standard Error (SE). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 38 data yang memenuhi keriteria diperoleh peningkatan sebesar 53%. Pada jenjang SD dengan data sebanyak (N) 13 ditemukan pemahaman konsep siswa mengalami peningkatan sebesar 29%, pada jenjang SMP dengan data sebanyak (N) 18 ditemukan pemahaman konsep siswa mengalami peningkatan sebesar 0.41 atau 41%, dan pada jenjang SMP dengan data sebanyak (N) 9 ditemukan peningkatan sebesar 0.25 atau 25%. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh bahwa pembelajaran berbasis etnomatematika dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep belajar siswa lebih berpengaruh pada jenjang SMP yaitu sebesar 41%.Abstract: Learning mathematics with the concept of local culture or what is called ethnomathematics is a strategy to teach students in learning mathematics which has been considered scary. Ethnomathematics means the study of mathematics that considers the culture in which mathematics arises and is an approach used to reveal the correlation between environmental culture and mathematics. This study aims to determine the improvement of students' understanding of mathematical concepts with ethnomathematics-based learning. The method in this study uses meta-analysis. Data were analyzed using JASP software with the input of Effect Size (ES) and Standard Error (SE) values. The results showed that 38 data that met the criteria obtained an increase of 53%. At the elementary level with data as much as (N) 13, it was found that students' concept understanding had increased by 29%, at the junior high school level with data as much as (N) 18, it was found that students' concept understanding had increased by 0.41 or 41%, and at the junior high school level with data as much as (N) 9, an increase of 0.25 or 25% was found. Based on the data obtained, ethnomathematics-based learning in improving students' understanding of learning concepts is more influential at the junior high school level, namely 41%.

Implementation of Interactive Learning Media Based on Virtual Laboratory on Student Science Literacy Skills

Virtual laboratories allow students to simulate experiments/practical work. This study aims to describe the application of interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories on students' scientific literacy skills in the material of substances and changes. This study uses a one-group pretest-posttest design, with three classes as research samples. The study was conducted in two schools, namely SMP Negeri 1 Tilango and SMP Negeri 1 Tilongkabila. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' scientific literacy skills after students participated in learning using virtual laboratory media based on PhET Simulation. This media provides students with the opportunity to conduct virtual experiments, which has an impact on increasing their understanding of concepts and critical thinking skills. Based on the results of the analysis, the average posttest score of students was higher than the pretest score, which was 89.35 in the experimental class, 91.90 in replication class 1, and 88.64 in replication class 2. This fact shows that the use of virtual laboratories plays a positive role in improving student learning achievement. Thus, interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories can be used as an effective alternative to support science learning at the junior high school level.

Enhancing Ecosystem Understanding and Motivation through Augmented Reality Learning Media: A Mixed-Methods Study at SMP Negeri 4 Bajo

This study aims to implement Augmented Reality (AR)–based learning media for introducing ecosystem concepts at SMP Negeri 4 Bajo and to analyze its effect on students’ conceptual understanding and learning motivation in science learning. This research employed a sequential mixed methods design, integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches in successive phases. The initial qualitative stage involved interviews and classroom observations to identify students’ prior understanding of ecosystem concepts and the need for digital learning media. The findings informed the design and development of an AR application incorporating image marker and audio marker features. The quantitative phase evaluated the effectiveness of the AR media through classroom implementation and learning outcome analysis. The results indicate that the use of AR significantly improved students’ understanding of ecosystem concepts, particularly food chains, food webs, and interactions among living organisms. Students showed increased enthusiasm, critical thinking, and active participation during learning activities. Teachers reported that AR media enhanced the interactivity and contextual relevance of science instruction. The findings provide empirical evidence that AR-based learning media can effectively support science instruction at the junior high school level. Teachers are encouraged to integrate AR into lesson planning to enhance student engagement and conceptual understanding, supported by appropriate training and technological infrastructure. This study contributes to educational technology research by demonstrating the effectiveness of a sequential mixed methods approach in developing and evaluating AR-based learning media for ecosystem learning.

Examining the dimensionality of pre-service teachers’ enthusiasm for teaching by combining frameworks of educational science and organizational psychology

The aim of this study was to obtain a holistic understanding of pre-service teachers’ enthusiasm for teaching (a subject) by examining its structure as well as relevant factors that may be related to it in the first phase of teacher education. For this purpose, we considered two strands of research: educational science and organizational psychology. Accordingly, the professional competence model and the job demands and resources model helped to identify factors that are associated with pre-service teachers’ enthusiasm for teaching. Responses of 211 pre-service biology teachers indicated that enthusiasm for teaching can be considered as one-dimensional. Moreover, we found positive relationships between enthusiasm for teaching and academic self-concept, intrinsic career choice motives and occupational commitment. In contrast, we detected negative relations between enthusiasm for teaching and both emotional exhaustion and intention to quit. No significant relations could be found for enthusiasm for teaching and both professional knowledge and extrinsic career choice motives. Our findings highlight the importance of enthusiasm for teaching in the earliest stage of teachers’ careers. Thus, our study points out relevant factors that could help to maintain high enthusiasm and to keep (pre-service) teachers healthy and in the profession.

Challenges of Curriculum Design and its Implications on Policy: The Case of the Junior High School (JHS) Teaching Subjects in Ghana

The educational landscape though serves as the bedrock for human resource development, it still has challenging academic experiences in Junior High Schools in Ghana. The realization is that, transitional stages of schooling seem not to have curriculum alignment that reflect tertiary education programme. Yearning for flexibility, harmonization and synchronization of the curriculum, the paper seeks to explore missing interest areas, talents in order to discover inspired paths that underpin enrichment of the school curriculum. To deepen high school experience for appropriate and best practices in human capital development, the researchers examine curriculum design and its implications on policy, the case of the JHS teaching subjects in Ghana. This engagement adopts the combined approach using the discursive method and descriptive analysis. Participants of the study include 100 students, 10 teachers, 5 circuit supervisors, and 5 curriculum experts of the Cape Coast Metropolis. Interviews are the main instruments used for the qualitative analysis while graphical representations and achievement tests are conducted for students from the ten schools. In the investigations, the study discovers that, there is no curriculum alignment in some of the teaching subjects taught at the JHS level despite their potential areas for human capital development. It is recommended that, the curriculum at the JHS level should be revised to reflect the best practices, prospects and opportunities for students.

Model Problem-Based Learning for Improving Student’s Mathematical Competence: Systematic Literature Review

Improving students' mathematical competence such as problem-solving skills, mathematical communication, reasoning, and others can use the Problem Based Learning model. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Problem Based Learning model in improving the mathematical competence of students from primary school, junior high, and senior high school levels. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The sample comprises 17 research results on the PBL model in improving students' mathematical competence (concept understanding, problem-solving, and communication skills). The sample comes from indexed journals from the period 2012-2019. The key research question is how PBL influences students' mathematical competence based on the year of school, level of study, research location, and sample size. The SLR method can find an increase in the number of eight-year studies. The results showed that communication skills and understanding of mathematical concepts dominated research results in improving mathematical abilities through problem-based learning models. Most of the research was conducted at the junior high school level outside Java, with a sample size of 30 people or more. Based on the results of the review, the study’s conclusion proves the influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' mathematical competence.

Implementing 21st-Century Learning in Social Studies: A Case Study at SMP Negeri 2 Balung, Jember

This study aims to investigate how 21st-century learning is implemented in Social Studies instruction at SMP Negeri 2 Balung, Jember. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers, and analysis of school curriculum documents. The results show that implementing 21st-century learning at SMP Negeri 2 Balung, particularly in the Social Studies subject, includes key elements such as student collaboration, problem-solving, media literacy, and critical thinking skills. Active student engagement in the learning process and the integration of information technology are strongly emphasized in efforts to enhance the relevance of education to contemporary needs. However, challenges such as limited resources and teachers' understanding of 21st-century learning concepts remain obstacles that must be addressed. This study provides insights into how schools can adapt 21st-century learning approaches in the context of Social Studies instruction at the junior high school level. The implications of this research may contribute to developing more relevant and effective curricula and teaching practices in the future.

The purpose of this study is to find out and describe the Implementation of the Zoning System Policy for New Student Admissions (PPDB) at the Junior High School Level in Karimun Regency, especially at SMP Negeri 1 Karimun and SMP Negeri 4 One Cliif Roof. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with primary and secondary data sources. The theory used in this study is the Van Metre Van Horn Theory with six indicators: policy measures or objectives, resources, implementing characteristics, attitudes/dispositions, inter-organisational communication, social environment, economy, and politics. The study's findings are as follows: (1) the size and objectives of the zoning system policy at SMP Negeri 1 Karimun and SMP Negeri 4 Satu Atap Tebing have been operating in accordance with the established regulations even though the standards of success are not appropriate. (2) HR has already established quantity and quality but there are still facilities such as classrooms that are damaged. (3) the executors comprehend and perform their duties in accordance with the rules in a strict and disciplined manner; and (4) there are still pros and cons from the community, so far the executors have been very elpful in implementing the zoning system. (5) There has been inter-organizational communication; nevertheless, posters and socialisation have not all been dispersed equally. 6) From a societal standpoint, the general populace still doesn't understand computers. It has been operating in accordance with its objectives from an economic and political standpoint. The study's findings indicate that the PPDB zoning system has been implemented at SMP Negeri 1 Karimun and SMP Negeri 4 One Cliif Roof Tebing in accordance with Permendikbud Regulation Number 1 of 2021 and the technical guidelines established by the Regent of Karimun Regency prior to the start of new student admissions.

Digital Media Management as an Innovation of Media Learning in Junior High School

This study aims to analyze and describe digital learning management as an innovative learning media at the junior high school or junior high school level. This research is a qualitative research that collects data in the form of a series of descriptions of research results through interviews. Observation and documentation. This research was conducted at Manado I Public Middle School from August 2022 to September 2022. The results showed that planning at SMP Negeri I Manado. Judging from the research results, SMP Negeri I Manado had complete infrastructure according to its functions. And from the results of the documentation of digital tools that are sufficient and support digital media systems in the learning process. The results of the study show that the organization of digital media at SMP Negeri I Manado has been well implemented. The implementation of digital media as an innovative learning media for SMP Negeri I Manado is carried out first by training teachers how to use digital media in learning, then how to use internet sites, websites, videos, sound recordings, music, and Android applications to support and continue to enrich the learning process. . Supervision of digital media at SMP Negeri I Manado is carried out by the principal and teachers, staff and parents of students, to ensure that the use of digital media remains on the expected target, namely to support the learning process and improve student quality. Evaluation of digital media at SMP Negeri I Manado was carried out by analyzing the effect of using digital media in the learning process. So that the evaluation can be used for future program planning.

This study aims to determine the effect of gamification in mathematics learning on the academic achievement of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two classes: an experimental group that received gamified instruction and a control group that was taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, and the analysis was conducted using parametric statistics, specifically the independent samples t-test. The analysis revealed that the average learning outcome in the experimental group was 83.6, which was higher than that of the control group, which had an average score of 76.2. The prerequisite tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The t-test produced a significance value of p = 0.003 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The conclusion of this study is that gamified learning has a positive impact on students' mathematics achievement. Gamification enhances student engagement, motivation, and conceptual understanding. Therefore, this strategy is recommended as an innovative approach to mathematics instruction at the junior high school level.

Literacy and numeracy are basic competencies needed by students to analyze reading and numbers in various contexts. Based on the research results, it is known that the literacy and numeracy competencies of students in Indonesia are still very lacking. For this reason, the Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, is holding a program called the Teaching Campus, which invites students to contribute to strengthening students' literacy and numeracy learning, especially at the junior high school level. Students work directly to help schools, teachers and students according to school conditions and existing needs. The student activities in implementing this campus teaching program are prepared in the form of a RAK (Collaborative Action Plan). However, before that the students are handed over by the field supervisor to the school, then the students carry out school observations. Once they felt they had enough observation data, students created a RAK with the main target of developing the quality of literacy and numeracy. In line with this, students carry it out together with a team that has been formed by the campus teaching program organizing committee. All activities include teaching in class, calistung tutoring, garden improvements, green parks, Bible study, art lessons, literacy trees, reading corners, helping with administration in employee offices, student character training, mutual cooperation, morning cleaning, helping with daily pickets, and development Student talent is a program that the student team carries out during the assignment period at the placement school for the class 7 campus teaching program at SMP Negeri 1 Palipi, JL. This research investigates the effectiveness of the play approach in improving basic soccer technical skills in class VII junior high school students. The main focus is on four key techniques: passing, controlling, dribbling and shooting the ball. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology which is carried out in two learning cycles. The research participants consisted of 39 students (19 boys, 20 girls) from SMP Negeri 1 Waru Sidoarjo. Data is collected through direct observation, skills tests, and documentation of the learning process. Analysis includes qualitative evaluation of student participation and quantitative assessment of skill scores. Results showed significant improvements in students' basic soccer technical skills. The average score increased from 74.05 in cycle I to 75.77 in cycle II. In addition, there was an increase in students' active involvement and the overall quality of the learning process. These findings indicate that the play approach is effective in improving basic soccer skills as well as students' learning motivation. This research provides valuable insight for sports educators about teaching strategies that can improve the learning of soccer techniques at the junior high school level.
