Abstract

Objective: To improve glycemic control of the diabetic patient during the inpatient rehabilitation admission through implementation of an aggressive, standardized diabetic patient order sheet. Improvement was defined as an increase in the number of Accu-Chek blood sugar levels occurring within the chosen target range of 80-180g/dl. Design: Prospective experiment with retrospective control. Setting: A 127-bed, stand alone acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Participants: All diabetic patients admitted for acute inpatient rehabilitation between 2 separate time periods: July 1 through September 30, 2005, and March 1 through May 31, 2006.
