Abstract

When an autoionizing state decays, the spectral line shape of the emitted electron is affected by the post-collision interaction (PCI) with other collision partners. This is the case in slow ion-atom collisions, where the autoionization line profile displays a strong enhancement in the forward direction. The aim of the present work is to describe the PCI effects that occur in outer-shell autoionization by ion impact. Different theoretical descriptions and experimental results are reviewed.
