Abstract

A patient with idiopathic dilatation of the pulmonary artery is presented. Simultaneous pressure tracings of the ventricles (right and left) and the two arteries (aortic and pulmonary) together with an external phonocardiogram, revealed no asynchronism in the closure of the two semilunar valves. The mechanism of the wide splitting of the second sound is discussed and is related to peripheral factors.
