Abstract

Environmental safety recognizes forest fires as a very challenging risk, which is becoming even more relevant in the light of climate changes. Forest fires in mountainous areas, which are difficult to access and the local community does not have adequate means to control and extinguish, are one of the most challenging categories of environmental risk. The fire that affected the area of the Nature Park Stara planina, in the period from October 28 to November 3, 2019, spread to over 2100 hectares and devastated the habitats of endemic plant species Cirsium heterotrichum and Senecio pancici. The goal of this work is to investigate the changes in the agrochemical characteristics of the land affected by the fire, as well as to conduct a field survey in order to establish the degree of renewal of endemic species populations one year after the forest fire.
