Abstract

Magnetoresistances (MR) of pitch based carbon fibers annealed at 1000°C and 1200°C were measured at temperatures T from 2 to 30 K. Magnetic flux density B up to 1 T was applied parallel to the fiber axis. The MR's were positive and were proportional to B 2 T -3/2 . The positive MR's were well described by the theory of Coulomb interactions including spin splitting of a weakly disordered electron gas in three dimensions which has been investigated by Lee and Ramakrishnan, Kawabata, and lsawa et al .
