Abstract
Porous silicon heterostructure with very large photonic band gap with a cavity defect layer inside the structure had been fabricated and applied successfully as refractometer device of the organic solvent moieties by using the resonant peak shift due to solvent refractive index modulation effect. The results show that the optical performance of this structure is better than to the conventional porous silicon photonic crystal early reported. The relationship between the wavelength resonance peak shift and the solvent refractive index showed to be linear as desired for device sensor application.
