The implementation of alternative payment models within pediatrics has trailed behind adult medicine. However, children with medical complexity (CMC) serve as a promising population that could greatly benefit from the advantages of capitated payments. As we consider expanding coordinated care models for CMC through population-based payment models, there are multiple lessons that can be applied from the adult world and considerations specific to the pediatric population.
