Abstract

A premature newborn was referred in his 7th day of life to our department in high-frequency oscillatory ventilation and critical conditions for suspected supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. At the arrival transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) demonstrated dilation of the right heart with right to left restrictive interatrial shunt. A vertical vein was recognized draining into the inferior vein cava. However, it was not possible to clearly visualize all the pulmonary veins. Additionally, there was a tortuous ascending vessel with accelerated Doppler flow suggestive of an obstructed ascending vertical vein.
