Abstract

<P><I>Editor’s note: Each month, this department features a discussion of an unusual diagnosis in genetics, radiology, or dermatology. A description and images are presented, with the diagnosis and an explanation of how the diagnosis was determined following. As always, your comments are welcome.</I></P> <P>A 39-week infant male was born to a 23-year-old gravida 2 para 1 white woman via spontaneous vaginal delivery. There were no complications during delivery with Apgar scores of 8 and 9 at 1 and 5 minutes of life, respectively. Mother had adequate prenatal care. Past medical history was only significant for depression with a 4-year daily use of 40 mg fluoxetine. Maternal labs were unremarkable. Family history was noncontributory. Infant birth weight was 3,764 grams. Infant displayed slight tachypnea and mild grunting while breastfeeding without signs of sepsis. The respiratory symptoms quickly resolved.</P>
