Abstract
This article deals with the most important characteristics of historical mapping of the Adriatic region, particularly its eastern part and genesis of the pilot books. Both is observed in the context of the fact that the sea was the shortest, easiest and cheapest transport route which connected Europe with Asia and Africa.

We can mention Gioseppe Rosaccio (1598 and 1606), Piri Reis again, our Senjski peljar from the beginning of the 17th century as the first work of the kind written in Croatian, John Seller, Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (1688, 1696), Henry Michelot or Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1771), who gave a specific combination of nautical charts and navigation instructions.[17]
It is worth mentioning that the Croatian part of the Adriatic, meaning almost entire eastern part of that sea, has always been in the center of the world cartographic research throughout history

Oboje se stavlja u kontekst činjenice da je to more tijekom svih povijesnih tisućljeća najkraći, najlakši i najjeftiniji prometni pravac kojim se Europa povezivala s Azijom i Afrikom. Kartografiranje istočnog dijela Jadranskog mora tijekom prošlosti integralni je dio povijesti kartografiranja Mediterana i europskog kontinenta.* Tome je temeljni razlog činjenica da je Jadran od prapovijesti do danas kontinuirano funkcionirao kao najkraći, najlakši i najjeftiniji prometni pravac kojim se Europa povezivala s Azijom i Afrikom.
