Abstract
Reissert compounds, 2-benzoyl-1,2-dihydroisoquinaldonitrile (3) and 2,2'-adipoylbis[1,2- dihydroisoquinaldonitrile] (14), have been prepareed utilizing DMF as solvent in quantitative yields. LiCN as a cyanide source in Reissert compound synthesis is reported for the first time. Synthesis and characterization of novel, reactive poly(isoquinoline Reissert compound)s are reported. Chemical modification of these polyamides via formation of the Reissert anion was demonstrated
