Polychromy in Modern Russian Sculpture
This publication analyzes the possibilities of using polychromy in the creative practice of Russian sculptors. The emphasis is on highlighting the main criteria for the use of color. Hermeneutical and analytical approaches are used in combination with induction and comparison. In general, formal stylistic analysis prevails in the research methodology. The novelty of the study is due to the low level of study of the work of Russian sculptors and the weak elaboration of the problem of polychromy in the theory of sculpture as a whole. Having briefly demonstrated the experience of using polychromy in sculpture throughout the history of the development of world cultures, the authors, based on the analysis of modern sculptural compositions, draw conclusions about the relevance and diversity of the use of polychromy in domestic sculpture of the twenty-first century. Two functions of using color in sculpture are highlighted, namely: imitation/animation and symbolic/sacred. The characteristics of these functions are considered on the basis of concrete examples, in conclusion, the prospects for the development of polychromy as one of the most expressive compositional techniques of plastics are evaluated

Problem statement. The relevance of the subject is due to the fact that the renaissance process of Huang Ji’s personality and body of work began in the 1990’s when the effects of the false assessment of the music activity of the Chinese composer as a traitor of national interests formed during the “cultural revolution” were eliminated. The aim of the article is to provide a genre and style analysis of Huang Ji’s instrumental works, appraising their significance in the context of the development of the national music culture of China of the future. Research methodology is based on the method of historicism, axiological and musicological and analytical approaches, and genre and style analysis. Results. The modern interpretation of Huang Ji’s creative personality as the founder of Chinese music culture, based on the introduction of the principles of European professional traditions into the national art, requires an analytical study of the entire building of the works of the composer, in particular, instrumental (symphonic ouverture «In memoriam», orchestral play «Fantastic city», polyphonic piano works Prelude «Subject from Bach», «Two two-part inventions», three fugues in the strict style), which have remained until now outside the interests of Chinese musicologists, who traditionally pay more attention to the vocal creative work of the founder of the national classics of the twentieth century. The study of Huang Ji’s symphony and piano pieces, written during his traineeship at the School of Music in Oberlin (second half of the 1920’s), has made it possible to appraise the historical significance of the Chinese composer as the founder of national instrumental art, Europeanized in origin, based on mastering the classical genres, forms, themes and foundations of composer’s technique. Novelty. An attempt is made at identifying the genre and style features of Huang Ji’s instrumental body of work, based on the traditions of European professionalism, in the fields of symphonic and piano music. The practical significance. The research has important implications for studying the significance Huang Ji’s instrumental body of work in the context of the development of the national music culture of China of the future.

In the interwar period, biologists employed a diverse set of holistic approaches that were connected to different research methodologies. Against this background, this article explores attempts in the 1920s and 1930s to negotiate quantitative and qualitative methods in the field of neurophysiology. It focuses on the work of two scientists on different sides of the Atlantic: the Dutch animal psychologist and physiologist Frederik J.J. Buytendijk and the American neuropsychologist Karl S. Lashley, specifically analyzing their critical correspondence, 1929–1932, on the problems surrounding the term intelligence. It discusses the inexplicable anomalies in neurophysiology as well as the reliability of quantitative and qualitative methods. While in his laboratory work Lashley adhered to a strictly analytic approach, Buytendijk tried to combine quantitative methods with phenomenological and hermeneutical approaches. The starting point of their discussion is Lashley’s monograph on Brain Mechanisms and Intelligence (1929) and the rat experiments discussed therein. Buytendijk questioned the viability of the maze-learning method and the use of statistics to test intelligence in animals; he reproduced Lashley’s experiments and then confronted Lashley with his critical findings. In addition to elucidating this exchange, this paper will, more generally, shed light on the nature of the disagreements and shared assumptions prevalent among interwar neurophysiologists. In turn, it contributes to historiographical debates on localization and functionalism and the discrepancy between analytic (quantitative) and interpretative (qualitative) approaches.

The relevance of the study is due to the need to include the novel "Ulysses" by J. Joyce in university and, if possible, school curricula in foreign literature, as well as the need for its interpretation, despite the excessive complexity of the text and difficulty of perception. It is also important to return the legacy of D. Vikonska, a writer, critic, art critic and literary critic, to modern Ukrainian culture. Research methodology: a model of analysis of the modernist novel "Ulysses", created on the basis of the research work of D. Vikonska “James Joyce. The secret of his artistic face” (1934). Scientific novelty: for the first time the analysis of the novel "Ulysses" is carried out with the broad involvement of the half-forgotten studio of D. Vikonska, which has not lost its relevance, clearly articulates the modernist nature of the work, including surreal style. The purpose of the study: to draw attention to the outstanding figure of D. Vikonska as the founder of Ukrainian Joyce studies, to include her in the modern literary process, to show with her help the significant role of Joyce's novel "Ulysses". Conclusions. The answer to the question why Joyce's novel Ulysses is considered a landmark work of modernism should be concise but convincing, based on macro- and microanalysis of the text. First of all, it is a unique example of the author's self-expression, extreme subjectivism (the whimsy of Joyce's nature), transformed into universalism. No one is as subjective as Joyce is, no one is as universal as he is. Such can only be a conscious modernist who has passed the difficult path of search outside, in the world of culture, and inside, looking into the irrational depths of his own psyche. This is the most rational, intellectual and at the same time irrational, or visionary, according to K.G. Jung, type of creativity. Second: this is the boldest (revolutionary, in the words of Vikonska) challenge to tradition (or Cultural Canon, according to K.G. Jung), which manifested itself in the ironic parody of almost all known literary forms and narrative means, many moral and ethical norms. Third: it is a brilliant example of the author's style, a variant of surrealism, which grows out of naturalism and turns into neomythologism. Joyce's style is characterized by the following features: associative metaphorical writing, author's dictionary, which includes numerous innovations, narrative reception of the flow of consciousness; use of dreams, delusions, other boundary conditions; a bizarre intertwining of past and present, when dead and living characters are equal in meaning; consistent reflection of the external in the internal and vice versa; a labyrinth of human wanderings in search of pleasures, meaning, cognition and self-knowledge. Joyce modeled the next stage in the development of culture – the transition from modernism to postmodernism, from an ironic re-reading of tradition to playing with it.

The hermeneutic methodology is an analytical and dialectical approach that is irreplaceable for the development of critical thinking. In the post-truth era, the traditional interpretation of text has given way to more complex interpretative instances in which audiovisual content is the basis of new narratives and new knowledge. Qualitative methodological research has always claimed socio-historical and temporal prominence in the analysis of social phenomena. Accepting this premise, hermeneutics is presented as a plausible methodological research strategy for analyzing the representation of a social fact. Specifically, the aim of this research is to show the potential of hermeneutic analysis by examining two opposing versions of the terrorist attack that took place at the headquarters of the satirical weekly magazine, Charlie Hebdo, in 2015. To conduct this analysis the researcher has used the hermeneutic methodology of suspicion (Gadamer, 1960/2004). A main conclusion is that the Internet has become a catalyst for multiple truths in the post-truth era. The Internet is an exhaust pipeline where critical thinking is expounded. The Internet, in short, is a space of resistance where people are able to question the mainstream media’s versions and interpretations of events as imposed by the elite Davos Class.

The development of mass communication media and an increase in the volume of information have actualized the issue of the peculiarities of children's socialization in an information society. An animated product is a spectacular and accessible way to convey important social information to children. The article attempts to identify and describe existing research practices on the content and impact of cartoon products on the socialization of children in Russia over the past decades. In particular, the objects of research (cartoon products and children) are analyzed, as well as the methods used in these studies. The object and methods of studying the influence of cartoon products on the socialization of children have been identified as the subject of our research. The research methodology is based on the application of content analysis methods, traditional document analysis, and elements of structural and semantic analysis. The empirical material was articles by domestic researchers published in the period from 2000 to 2024 and containing the results of studying the impact of media content on children. The objects of studying the influence of media content on the socialization of the younger generation are cartoon products and children. Methods of content analysis, narrative analysis, phenomenological and hermeneutic approaches are used to analyze media content. Children's preferences and media practices are clarified through surveys and projective techniques. The choice of children as an object of research requires taking into account their age characteristics in the application of research methods and strategies. In this context, sociographic methods, projective methods, the case study method, as well as forms of surveys based on associations, the use of which should take into account the characteristics of each age period, are promising.

This article is devoted to the studying hermeneutic circle in the development of methodological culture of future music teacher. Under the conditions of globalization processes, tendencies of convergence of world cultures improvement of culturological training of student youth requires new approaches, in particular, culturological training of students of pedagogical specialties. The task of pedagogical education is to develop a teacher as a specialist and as a person of high culture, who has a special positive effect on the personality of school student. This article analyses the works of scientists dedicated to the issues of establishment and development of the hermeneutic approach in philosophical, psychological, and logical and gnosiological contexts. It is defined the essence of the concept of “hermeneutic circle” as one of the basic principles of the hermeneutic approach. There have been provided the examples of interpretation of the principle of hermeneutic circle by various scientists. Hermeneutic approach is applied in sciences such as pedagogy, psychology, economics, sociology etc. In pedagogical science the hermeneutic approach at the level of conceptual use was elaborated by A. Zakirova. She introduced the term “pedagogical hermeneutics”. Hermeneutic circle as a principle of text understanding is based on the interrelation of the part and the whole. Understanding of the whole consists of the understanding of the individual parts, and understanding of the parts requires understanding of the whole. The concepts of the part and the whole are correlated: the text is a part concerning the whole creative activity of the author, which in its turn is a part of the particular genre or literature in general, as well as the part of spiritual life and biography of the author. The idea of hermeneutic circle means also that there is no understanding of the text without certain prerequisites: understanding is preceded by some idea of what is yet to understand. There have been determined the peculiarities of the use of the principle of hermeneutic circle in the development of methodological culture of the future teacher of musical art. In light of hermeneutical trends, the penetration of which in the realm of musical art can be traced quite clearly, the use of the hermeneutic circle principle in the development of methodological culture of the future teacher of musical art appears not only in the narrow interpretation of the particular phenomenon or group of phenomena, but much wider — as a means of learning and understanding of the worldview by a person.
